Matrix Form Lapped Space Time Block Coding in Frequency Selective Channels

Abstract

Space-Time Block Coding (STBC) is first introduced for quasi-static flat-fading channels by Alamouti. This paper proposes a modified delayed version of STBC for frequencyselective channels called Lapped Matrix STBC (LM-STBC), by introducing at least a delay of the order of the number of channel taps. This scheme uses two transmit antennas and one or multiple receive antennas and is applicable to wideband channels with correlation. Zero-forcing (ZF) and minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalizers are considered in the receivers. The simulation shows that the proposed (LM-STBC) outperforms the matrix STBC proposed by Li, Yao, and Li. Compared with the matrix STBC proposed by Li, Yao, and Li, LM-STBC is quite robust to transmit channel correlation.
